We will meet at the Cabarita wharf and catch the 11:02am ferry.\nLocation:  Sydney Jewish Museum, 148 Darlinghurst Road, Darlinghurst\nThe Professor will introduce us to the untold story of three brave Jewish Polish female refugees, young women, who in the Japanese spring of 1941, found themselves in Kobe, a port city on the main island of Honshu.\nHailing from Warsaw and Lodz, they escaped from Poland through Lithuania and the USSR to Japan. In Japan they became entangled in the deal-making between Polish ambassador Romer and Australian\nambassador Latham that aimed to force the Australian government to accept Polish Jewish refugees.\nThis fascinating story explores how these Jewish refugees became part of the only civilian prisoner exchange between the Allies and Japan. From Poland, to Russia, to Japan, to Africa and beyond, this is an untold story of subterfuge, international conflict and the courage of young women alone in a world at war.\n
